For additional fishing, check out Mud River and Spring, conveniently located along our property, Neptune’s Grotto. This spring provides a tranquil day out on the water, searching for your next catch. Our property even offers limited day-use options!

Scalloping

Scalloping is an activity similar to fishing, where scallops are harvested from shallow waters. Weeki Wachee has some great scalloping options, including a scalloping charter located at Mud River in Weeki Wachee. This charter provides access to some of the best scalloping in the United States. Nearby boat rentals also offer the opportunity to get out on your own!

Charters can accommodate up to a group of six, allowing you and your party to have ample amounts of fun. Journeying along the Mud River, you will additionally have the opportunity to see Florida’s unique local nature and wildlife as you head into the shallow waters of the Gulf to search for your treasures. Enjoy the snorkeling hunt, share a laugh, and experience one of the best activities Florida has to offer. Scallop season runs from July through September.

Kayaking

Switching gears, let’s talk more about kayaking these beautiful, crystal-clear waters. Kayaking the Weeki Wachee River, nearby Crystal River, and other locally known secret spring runs are other popular attractions in the area, where individuals can rent kayaks, bring their own, or use kayaks often provided by the accommodations and see all that nature has to offer.

Tour companies provide guided experiences and may be preferable for those who are new to the area. Sit back and relax as you take in the surreal surroundings.

Manatee Sightings

Along your journey, be on the lookout for Manatees. These animals can be spotted floating lazily in the water from Weeki Wachee to Homosassa and Crystal River. These herbivores get the nickname “sea cows,” and for good reason. Their large, chunky stature is sure to appeal to all! Please maintain a respectful distance as you interact with the Florida manatees.

The best time to see manatees would be from November through April, although there are many spotted year-round. Here, the docile creatures are abundant for your viewing pleasure.

Action Adventure

For the adrenaline seekers, Brooksville and Weeki Wachee offer ATV and dirtbike riding and rental in the Croom Motorcycle area of the Withlacoochee State Forest and exciting airboat tours in the marshes at the mouth of the Weeki Wachee River.
